Most multi-day tours do one thing well. Sutjeska Hobit does three things that have nothing in common with each other — and manages to make them all feel essential.
Day one takes you into Perućica: Europe's last true primeval forest, where 300-year-old trees reach over 60 metres into a closed canopy. You hike for five hours through terrain that has never been logged, alongside a national park ranger who knows where the bears and eagles are. Day two puts you in a neoprene suit in the Hrcavka River — a tight canyon descent with crystal pools, waterfall jumps and rope-assisted cliff sections. Day three rides out to the Velenici stud farm for a half-day on purebred Arabian horses above the Tara Canyon.
No experience required for any of it. Full safety briefings, all equipment provided for canyoning, and a team that genuinely enjoys watching people discover things they didn't know they could do.

The story of your trip, one day at a time
Each day is its own world. Arrive on Day 1, dive into the forest — then the canyon — then the canyon ridgeline on horseback. Day four, you leave changed.
Arrive at Green Villas, check in, then immediately head into the most protected forest in Europe. A national park ranger leads the way. No trail has ever been a tourist route here.

Off-road vehicle to Perućica entranceShort transfer by terrain vehicle to the forest boundary — one of the few places you're allowed to enter this ecosystem.

Forest exploration beginsFive hours navigating ancient woodland. Trees 300+ years old, trunks wider than most rooms, a closed canopy that filters the light green. Eagles overhead; bears, wolves and deer in the forest. Your ranger knows where to look and what to listen for.

Skakavac Waterfall — 81 mThe trail opens at a viewpoint high above the waterfall. 81 metres of freefall into the canyon. One of the tallest waterfalls in the Balkans — and almost no one knows it exists.

Return to Green VillasExit the forest and transfer back to Tjentište. Pool access available on return.

Dinner at Green VillasFull dinner at the villa. The forest will be in your head all evening.
Yesterday was green. Today is blue — a full canyon descent through the Hrcavka River, from narrow gorge walls to deep swimming pools. All equipment is provided and all safety instruction is given before you enter the water.

Canyon descent beginsThe Hrcavka narrows to canyon walls on both sides. You swim between sections, jump ledges into pools below and navigate the river at its own pace.

Midpoint — rest and snackA natural rest point in the canyon — your guide provides snacks and a moment to take stock of the rock walls around you.

Cliff descent sectionThe technical section of the day: rope-assisted descent of a vertical cliff face into a pool below. Guides handle all rigging. You just trust the rope.

Canyon exit and return transferExit the canyon, change out of kit and return to Green Villas.

Dinner at Green VillasFull dinner at the villa. Your arms will know you canyoned today.
The final adventure day is the quietest — horses, open forest, and the canyon stretching out below you. Purebred Arabians at the Velenici stud farm, guided riding through meadows and beech-oak forest.

Take it from them
We did this as a couple — no hiking experience, no horse riding experience, no canyoning experience. The guides made all three completely accessible. The forest on Day 1 was the most magical thing I've ever walked through. The Hrcavka on Day 2 was pure adrenaline. The horses on Day 3 were the perfect ending.
I came for the canyoning and left talking most about the forest. Perućica is something you have to experience in person — photos don't touch it. The rangers' knowledge was extraordinary. Four days well spent.
I'd never ridden a horse before Day 3. By the end of the morning I understood why people fall in love with it — the combination of the Arabians and the canyon views is something else. The whole four days felt designed to surprise you.
We came as a group of eight and everyone — from the most adventurous to the most cautious — had the time of their lives. Green Villas is warm and well-run, the food is genuinely excellent, and the guides are the kind of people you stay in touch with afterwards.
