Zelengora Lakes & Trnovačko Lake
Three days combining Zelengora alpine lakes, Trnovačko Lake and Bosnian hospitality — the moderate introduction to Sutjeska NP.
This is the hardest thing we offer. Four days that take you across Bosnia's two highest peaks and into one of the most strictly protected wilderness areas in Europe — one after another, without rest days. It is physically and mentally demanding. It requires prior mountaineering experience and genuine preparation. If that's you, read on.
Day one starts from the Papin Do mountain hut — a three-hour ascent through high meadows and pastures to the summit of Velika Vlasulja on Volujak (2,336 m), Bosnia's second-highest peak. You end the night at a camp on the shores of Trnovačko Lake under the stars. Day two climbs Maglić (2,386 m), Bosnia's roof. You descend to spend the night in traditional stone katuns on the Prijevor plateau. Day three descends into Perućica — the oldest and most pristine primeval forest in Europe — guided by national park rangers. Day four: breakfast and departure.
Maximum 8 participants. A safety assessment is conducted on arrival. Guides Hamza, Milan and Dejan know every ridge, trail and weather window on these mountains.
Day one delivers Bosnia's second-highest peak via Velika Vlasulja. A three-hour ascent from Papin Do through high meadows and exposed ridgeline walking.
Day two: stand on the highest point in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A 3–4 hour ascent with views stretching across the Montenegro border — as far as the eye can reach.
After Volujak, descend to camp at the shore of Trnovačko Lake at 1,517 m — stars overhead, silence all around and Maglić's profile rising above the water.
Day three descends into Europe's largest and most pristine primeval forest — towering trees over 50 m high, untouched cycles of life, and the 81 m Skakavac waterfall at the end.
Four consecutive days of climbing, camping and wilderness. The pace is hard but the rewards are unlike anything else in Bosnia.
The longest and most demanding day — a full summit ascent followed by a descent to one of Bosnia's most beautiful lakes. This is where you find out what you're made of.
The top of Bosnia awaits. A 3–4 hour ascent from camp to Maglić's summit — the highest point in the country — then onward to sleep in centuries-old mountain katuns.
After two days above the treeline, you descend into Europe's oldest forest. Trees over 50 m tall, eagles overhead, bears in the distance. Your national park guide knows where to look.
Breakfast is served from 07:00. Depart at your own pace. An optional additional night at Green Villas is available at a 30% discount for those who want to rest before the journey home.
I've climbed in the Alps and the Tatras and I can tell you Maglić is a different kind of experience — not because of the altitude but because of what surrounds it. Trnovačko Lake from above, the primeval forest below. Hamza was exceptional as a guide. This tour is the real thing.
Genuinely one of the hardest things I've ever done and one of the best. Night one at Trnovačko Lake with the stars and the summit above you is something you don't forget. The certificate at the end is earned, not handed out.
Two brothers, both experienced trekkers. Day two (Maglić) pushed us to our limits and the weather closed in on the descent — the guides handled it calmly and safely. The forest on Day three was a complete contrast — ancient, beautiful, humbling. Great team.
Dejan knew every route variation on both mountains and adjusted on Day 2 due to a weather window. We still made the summit. The Perućica forest on Day 3 was almost a shock after the open ridgelines — dark, vast, alive. An unforgettable four days.
