Tara River Rafting
25 km through Europe's deepest canyon. Breakfast, all gear and a riverside lunch included.
Perućica is one of the last surviving primeval forests in Europe — a UNESCO-recognised landscape of trees that predate recorded history, rivers that run clear as glass and a silence so complete it takes a moment to adjust. Very few people outside Bosnia even know it exists.
Your guide takes you through the heart of it, under a canopy that filters the light into something extraordinary, to the 81-metre Skakavac Waterfall — one of the tallest in the Balkans. The roar of it reaches you before you see it. Along the way you'll stop at the Dragoš Sedlo viewpoint at 1,306 m for open views across Sutjeska National Park, including Maglić — Bosnia's highest peak on the horizon.
This is a proper forest hike, not a casual walk. The trails are wild and the terrain demands decent boots and a moderate level of fitness. The reward is a landscape that surprises even experienced hikers — genuinely unlike anywhere else in Europe.
One of the tallest waterfalls in the Balkans, hidden inside Europe's last primeval forest. The roar of it reaches you long before you see it — and nothing prepares you for the scale.
Panoramic views across Sutjeska National Park, with Maglić — Bosnia's highest peak — visible on the horizon on a clear day.
Walk under trees that are hundreds of years old in a UNESCO-protected ecosystem that has never been logged — one of fewer than a handful left on the continent.
Our guides grew up in these forests and know the species, the stories and the hidden corners that don't appear on any map. Small groups — max 25 — keep it personal.
From the villa at Tjentište you head straight up to the viewpoint, then down into the ancient forest toward the waterfall. The return route swings through Suha for pick-up.
A full day in the forest — from an elevated viewpoint looking out across the park, down into the ancient Perućica woodland and all the way to the base of the Skakavac Waterfall. The return route loops through Suha for the vehicle pick-up.
Perućica is completely unlike anything else in Europe. The trees are ancient, the waterfall is massive and the forest silence is something you carry home with you. I've done a lot of hiking — this was different.
Our guide knew every plant and bird call in the forest. We walked for hours and it felt like minutes. The Dragoš Sedlo viewpoint at the start was breathtaking and the waterfall at the end even more so.
A proper hike — my legs felt it the next day, in the best possible way. Make sure you're wearing good boots. The forest is genuinely extraordinary and the waterfall in full spring flow is one of the most powerful things I've ever seen.
We'd never heard of Perućica before our trip to Bosnia. Now we tell everyone about it. The primeval forest concept sounds dramatic until you're actually standing in it — and then you understand. Absolutely unique.
